We were back in the studio this week rehearsing and meeting with Clarissa – our publicity manager – and Nic – our website designer. We also enlisted the help of Dave Dewsnip – one of our colleagues at the University of Salford and director of Dave D Events – in sourcing some door frames to experiment with scenographically (see images below)! We are now into deep devising mode, beginning to draw on material we’ve made in the studio over the last few months and working it up into choreography. We revisited some of the wrestling holds from Steven Fowler’s workshop and worked on fitting together some of our solo phrases into a sequence which also incorporates a duet. The work continues to deepen and took us right back to some of the fundamental questions we were wrestling (pun intended!) with right at the outset of our collaboration: how can we integrate poetry into the movement, and how does the movement suggest or dialogue with the poetry? We’ve also returned to exploring the mark-making aspect of the piece, and I loved building up this palimpsest of over-laid phrases as we rehearsed and rehearsed (see image above). Looking forward to seeing how things develop next week…
