Today we met with artist Roger Bygott, whose studio is near campus at the Hot Bed Press premises in Salford. Scott met Roger dancing the Five Rhythms and previously worked with him on a series of photographs to accompany his book Poems for the Dance. Today’s session was all about introducing Roger to Vital Signs and taking a series of shots to begin our publicity campaign ahead of the September festival.
Heading out together from our makeshift studio in Crescent House, we settled on the pedestrianised thoroughfare next to Joule house as our first location, then moved on to an obscure corner of Fire Station Square. This was a wonderful organic session with Sarie and I creating improvisations based on some of our developing choreography, whilst Roger offered some spectacularly subtle yet effective direction. We even experimented with writing some of the phrases from our co-composed poem onto our arms, shoulder and neck!
